Accomplishments | Mark Sanders Elected to AACE Board
Alpha 3 is proud to announce our Director of Projects, Mark Sanders, has been elected to the 2021-2022 Board of Directors for AACE International. Last month he officially settled into his appointment as Secretary (formerly known as the Vice President – Administration). Of his new role, Mark says “I really enjoyed participating on the Certification Board, and I’m looking forward to serving as Secretary on the Board of Directors. The mission of AACE is very important to me, because I see so many projects and organizations that can benefit from better cost engineering practices. I’ve been a member of AACE for 20 years, and I’m still learning from other members every year. I’m excited to continue to help promote and grow AACE around the world”.
Get to Know Us | Alpha 3's First Intern
Shrutika Barwal joined Alpha 3 this month as our very first intern, focusing on project controls. She has jumped right in and is currently working on construction claims analysis for a major transit project at Alpha 3. Shrutika is looking to apply her technical expertise and education to excel in the field of project controls. Originally from India, Shrutika earned her undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering and worked as a structural engineer in the power and oil & gas industries for 9 years; providing design support to mega-projects in various parts of the world including US, India, Kazakhstan, and Turkey. She is currently studying for her master’s degree at Texas A&M University and is a proud Aggie.
Presentations | AACE 2021 Conferences
Alpha 3 will be attending and presenting at the 2021 AACE International Virtual Conference & Expo June 14 – 18. AACE states “The Conference & Expo convenes the leading cost and project controls experts and dedicated professionals in the world. Presentations undergo a rigorous peer review process to ensure attendees receive the highest quality education”. So, it is no small feat that Alpha 3’s Matt Marzilli and Trauner’s Mike Ryan were asked to present on their technical paper, Owner Project Scheduling during the $6B Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project.
Earth Day 2021
On this Earth Day, we wanted to share how Alpha 3 is contributing to a more sustainable approach to electric utilities. When most of the general public hears the term “sustainability” as it relates to electricity, they often think the way to achieve it is by solar panels, wind turbines, etc. While strides are being taken to implement such visible processes, it is the behind-the-scenes steps that are having a more immediate and longer lasting effect. Replacing a small amount of generation with solar power is of course helpful but replacing a large amount of aging equipment with 25% more efficient equipment is much more impactful.
